Sporting Clube, Goan FC register wins
MARGAO: Sporting Clube de Goa made a fine start to their Hero Sub Junior Youth League campaign by trouncing Churchill Brothers SC 4-1, at Navelim ground, on Tuesday.
Diwakar Chowdhury did the star turn for Sporting with a hand in all four goals with a brace and two assists.
Hardly had the match started when in the first minute, Diwakar found Nelson Balbadra with a perfect pass and the latter found the net for Sporting to take the lead.
The shell shocked Churchill lads allowed Sporting to dominate the match and Diwakar made it 2-0 in the 23rd minute off an assist from Ashwill Thompson.
On crossing over, Churchill with some good pep talk from their coach showed their fighting spirit and reduced the margin in the 37th minute through Ismail Sheikh. But the Churchill fight back was short-lived as Sporting stepped up the tempo and pumped in two more goals to make it 4-1. First Shannen Palha made it 3-1 off a pass from the ever present Diwakar and then Diwakar himself completed his brace in the 59th minute from a beautiful through pass from Vishan Kerkar who had come in for Franzel.
Meanwhile at Nagoa panchayat ground, Verna, Goan FC blanked Salgaocar FC 3-0.
It was a match with upcoming youngsters from both teams. Salgaocar FC striker Salvador Gama and Goan FC midfield youngster Prachit Gaonkar put in stellar performances for their respective teams.
In the second minute, Salgaocar striker Salvador Gama’s move was foiled by Goan FC defender Dadapir N Ador. Three minutes later, Salgaocar striker Micheal Nevil Dias’ header missed the Goan FC target by whiskers after being assisted by Flan Crasto.
Goan FC midfielder Ivo Costa who was fed by Prachit Gaonkar should have found the net but hit the rival side netting in the seventh minute. Minutes later, a sudden move by Salgaocar’s Kenneth J Pereira saw him through pass the ball to Flan Crasto who took a long range shot but the Goan FC keeper Micky Dias pushed away the ball to safety.

It was Velrose Velli Dias who gave Goan FC the lead in the 48th minute with a deft placement shot off Rohan J Mangaonkar’s assist.
Two minutes later, Velrose V Dias netted his brace. Goan FC further inflated the lead in the 64th minute through midfielder Ivo Costa to make it 3-0. Later in the 67th minute, Salgaocar defender Hayden Fernandes’ free-kick hit the Goan FC cross bar and went out of play.
