Sporting Clube, Goan FC to clash in TACA U-20 final
PANJIM: Goan FC and Sporting Clube de Goa will clash for the Goa Football Association Taca Goa U-20 title following their respective wins in the semi-finals on Sunday.
While the Young Gaurs edged out Golden Eagles 2-0 at Cansaulim ground, Sporting Clube de Goa eased past Salgaocar FC with a similar score line.
At TB Cunha Sports Complex, Goan FC scored on either half of play. Dempo coached by forner Sesa Goa star Anthony D’Souza which Goan FC were coached by former Vasco star Gavin Araujo. Both the teams started the match well with equal footing but it was Joybert who put Goan FC ahead in the 38th minute when he capitalised on a defensive error from Dempo SC Nikhil and the former Dempo SC striker coolly slotted home past his former club. Dempo SC’s Desmond should have made the best of the chances as he missed three glorious chances to get his side back in the game.
In the second half both the teams had their chances. Dempo’s Darren and Desmond defended well to trouble the Goan FC strikers.
Goan FC went 2-0 ahead when Bryce and Wasim worked out a well executed free-kick and the latter took a shot straight at goal from inside the box which brushed off Desmond and landed in the far corner to kill the game.
Earlier, Chief Guest Orville Dourado Rodrigues, President of Velsao Sports Cultural Club was introduced to both the teams.
At Duler Stadium, Mapusa, Delton Colaco scored a fine brace to ensure a 2-0 win for Sporting Clube de Goa over Salgaocar Football Club and a chance to try for their 4th consecutive Taca Goa title.
The first quarter of the match was restricted to midfield play as both teams sized each other. Sporting had the first strike at goal in the 25th minute but Trijoy hit the side netting with keeper Vialli Rodrigues at his mercy.
At the other end, Chaitan Komarpant narrowly missed the mark after Vibhav had done the spade work.
After the break the game came to life in the 50th minute as Delton Colaco drew first blood for Sporting.
Latching on to a through ball from Joyson Gaunkar, Delton made a speedy run down the left flank, out pacing defender Shawn before surprising Vialli with a zero angle shot.
Stung by this reverse Salgaocar with their midfield led by Ribhav Sardessai and Prathamesh Satardekar forayed into the rival area but were thwarted by the strong defensive play of Akram and Danish backed by keeper Akshat.
Sporting made the issue safe in the 81st minute when Delton tapped in a cross from Xavier after Lloyd had split open the Salgaocar defence with a through pass.
Sporting will now play the final against Goan Sports Club on May 30 at Duler Stadium.
