MAPUSA/RAIA: Sporting Clube de Goa registered a well deserved 3-1 win over FC Goa in the Goa Professional League held at Duler stadium, here, on Monday.

After today’s win Sporting climbed on top spot of GPL with 46 points from 23 matches while FC Goa has 36 points.

Young Gaurs were indeed a better side in the first session with more of ball possession and strikes at the rival goal.

Two close attempts by Young Gaurs medio Lalthangliana in the 17th and 18th minute was well saved by Sporting's custodian Abhimanyu Singh.

Another close save this time was brought by Sporting's defender Joyner Lourenco as he headed the ball for a corner off Malsawmtluanga strike at the goal.

In the 40th minute, Young Gaurs Lemmet Tangvah brilliantly floated the ball to Malsawmtluanga whose left footer from inside the 6-yard box banged the crossbar and rebounded into play.

Sporting's medio Jonas Colaco saw two of his goal bound crosses being confidently saved by Young Gaurs goalkeeper Bob Raj.

On crossing over Sporting's in charge Armando Colaco brought Kunal, Joyson, Alister Anthony, Liston Cardozo and Lloyd Mascarenhas from the bench and there was a complete transformation in the Sporting unit.

In the very second minute, Sporting's Rohan Rodrigues sent a through pass to Llyod Cardozo who’s shot at the goal, was blocked by rival defender Deeshank Kunkalikar.

In the 56th minute Sporting's Joel Colaco was caught in the act of tackling Akash Oraow inside the penalty box prompting referee to point to the dreaded spot. Lemmet Tangvah took the responsibility and scored, 1-0.

Minutes later Akash Oraow almost netted the second goal but only to find Sporting's custodian Abhimanyu Singh coming with a full stretched diving save.

Sporting's substitute Kunal moved upfront from the right flank and sent a low cross at the goal to find Doyal Alves stab the ball into the nets, 1-1.

In the last quarter of the match, Sporting's Alister Anthony scored a brace. The first goal coming from the penalty spot and the second with a neat placement.

Sporting's Alister Anthony received the man-of-the-match award from former Sporting coach Peter Vales.

At Benaulim, Guardian Angel SC defeated Vasco SC, 3-2, at SAG ground, on Monday. Both the teams were tied at 1-1 at the breather. Peter Carvalho scored a brace while Fulganco Cardozo was the other scorer for Guardian Angel SC. For Vasco SC, Velito Rocha and substitute Moomin Bhat scored a goal each.
