MAPUSA: Sporting Clube de Goa registered a resounding 4-0 win over Football Club de Bardez in the Goa Professional League organised by GFA, played at Duler stadium, here, on Sunday.

It was another big margin win for Flaming Oranje after their thumping 6-0 win over Corps of Signals in their last league match.

Sporting dictated terms right from the start and after missing number of scoring chances went into the dressing room with three goals lead being scored by Nigerian Abiola Afuwape, Victorino Fernandes and Nigerian Sodiq Ibrahim.

At the other end for Football Club de Bardez it has been yet another bad outing after their humiliating 7-0 defeat from the hands of holders Salgaocar in their last league match.

Sporting medios Glan Martins and Quan Gomes time and again kept their two strikers Victorino Fernandes and Nigerian Abiola Afuwape busy upfront who scored at regular intervals.

While Pink Brigade who played in patches did try to build their attack through Inacio Colaco and Sherman Vaz their strikers Kirtikesh Gadekar and Shubham Dessai were given very little space by Sporting’s last line of defence to operate.

Early in the match, Daryl Costa’s and Myron Fernandes’ goal bound shots were blocked for corners by Bardez keeper David Chauhan.

However, after much probing finally in the 20th minute a 30-yard strike from the left flank by Myron Fernandes banged the upright and the ball came to unmarked Abiola who slotted the ball past the helpless Bardez keeper to make it 1-0.

As the match progressed, Sporting hammered in two more goals. Victorino Fernandes collected a through pass from Abiola and moved ahead and after getting past keeper David and placed the ball into the goal to double the lead.

Five minutes before the breather, Sporting scored in their third goal.

A curling corner by George D’Souza at the far post saw Abiola head the ball to his teammate Sodiq Ibrahim who coolly leaped high above the Bardez defenders and nodded the ball into the nets to make it 3-0.

On resumption of play, Sporting should have further increased their lead but twice Victorino Fernandes failed to score from the penalty spot.

In the 50th minute, Bardez keeper David brought down Victorino inside the penalty box, prompting referee Sharad Naik to point to the dreaded spot.

Victorino’s shot was brilliantly blocked by keeper David. From a goalmouth melee once again Victorino was tackled by the Bardez defender and the referee once again pointed to the penalty spot.

This time Victorino’s shot went wide over the goal post to receive loud boos from the spectators.

However, the keeper could do very little to stop Sporting score their fourth goal which came in the 87th minute from the boots of substitute Marcus Mascarenhas who scored from close quarters.
