PANJIM: Sporting Clube de Goa made light work of Goa Velha Sports Club as Francisco Fernandes proved to be the hero of the match scoring a fine hat-trick in his side’s 9-0 win in the Goa Football Association U-16 League match played at Don Bosco Oratory ground, Panjim, on Wednesday.

The Panjim based club were clearly the better side between the two and outplayed their opponents in all aspects of the game. Ball control, possession play and attack as well as defence -- Sporting Clube showed maturity in their game as they ran riot over Goa Velha SC.

Sporting Clube opened their scoring in the 5th minute through Brenan Rodrigues before doubling the tally through Francisco Fernandes in the 7th minute. Having a two-goal cushion, Sporting Clube kept the ball in the midfield and made the opponents chase the game. They soon inflated the tally to three goals in the 26th minute as Francisco scored his brace. Goa Velha SC looked to give up on the game as their defence were left exposed and the Panjim side took advantage and added another goal in the next minute through Brenan Fernandes, who also completed his brace. With two strikers chasing their hat-tricks, it was Francisco who completed his treble in the 36th minute to give Sporting Clube a five-goal cushion at the breather.

Crossing over, Sporting Clube continued their onslaught and scored four more goals. Rio Fernandes capitalised on a defensive error in the 46th minute to score the team’s sixth and Joseph D’Souza netted the seventh for the young Flaming Oranje.

Ankit scored the final two goals for Sporting Clube to complete the 9-0 round.
