MAPUSA: Sporting Clube de Goa scored a thumping 8-1 win over Bardez Football Club in the Goa Professional League organised by GFA, at Duler Stadium, here on Tuesday.

With Tuesday’s win, Sporting moved to the second position with 39 points from 17 matches, while Bardez FC remained at the bottom of the table with just 6 points from 19 matches.

The Flaming Oranje side who were ruthless throughout the match led 4-0 at half time with Marcus Mascarenhas being the star with three goals while Alesh Sawant and Mauvin Borges got two goals each with Clement Joseph also getting his name on the scoresheet. Richard Cardoz was the lone scorer for Bardez FC.

Stendly Fernandes had the first crack at the opponent’s goal in the 14th minute when he tested Bardez keeper Elesh Shirvoikar with a long ranger.

Had it not been for their keeper Elesh Shirvoikar, the score-line would have been further embarrassing for Bardez as he denied Girish Naik, Ganesh Thakur, Gautam Dias from finding the net with some smart saves.

Marcus Mascarenhas  broke the deadlock for Sporting with a firm header which had no chance to the Bardez keeper.

Sporting had a chance to double their lead in the 39th minute but Cajetan Fernandes after getting hold off a pass from Marcus Mascarenhas saw his rasping strike being well stopped by the Bardez keeper.

Skipper Clemente Joseph made it 2-0 in the 44th minute after being found by Ganesh Thakur who got past the Bardez defence with amazing footwork.

Sporting inflated further damage scoring two quick goals in the added time through Marcus Mascarenhas and Alesh Sawant to make it 4-0 at the end of first half.

Alesh Sawant got his brace on resumption of second half with a firm grounder after being released by Marcus Mascarenhas despite the valiant attempt from the Bardez keeper to keep the ball from entering the net to make it 5-0.

Bardez who were completely outclassed by their opponents had a reason to smile when they got a goal in the 55th minute through Richard Cardoz who cleverly beat the advancing Sporting keeper Akshat with Rudresh Mandrekar providing the pass to make it 5-1.

Marcus Mascarenhas after missing two opportunities finally got his hat-trick in the 76th minute when he slammed the ball into the net after being teed up by Akeraj Martins to make it 6-1.

Substitute Mauvin Borges further inflated the score sheet for Flaming Oranje by pumping in two more goals in the 79th and 92nd minutes to complete the rout.
