PANJIM: Vailankanni Boys Merces emerged champions of the M7 Spartacus King of the Week Futsal Championship, organised by M7FC, defeating Boom Boom Boys 6-5 via tie-breaker in the final played at Don Bosco Oratory Indoor Stadium, Panjim, on Sunday.

In the enthralling finale, the match between Vailankanni Boys and Boom Boom Boys lived up to the expectations of the crowd as both the teams displayed great football and some great goals.

It was Vailankanni Boys who took a well deserved lead in the fifth minute through Domnic when he unleashed a powerful strike from a distance which had no answer from the rival keeper to take the lead.

The goals built the momentum of the game as Boom Boom attacked continuously and finally managed to draw level when Devendra toe-poked on a loose ball that took the rival team and the keeper by surprise to equalise.

The two teams displayed great skills which entertained the hundreds of fans gathered to cheer the two teams.

One such moment of magic was Allwin’s volley of a defensive clearance which beat the rival keeper to send Vailankanni Boy 2-1.

However, Boom Boom Boys weren’t behind, as they had an equal answer to their opponents as Salu Santos slammed in a perfect volley from the left flank which surprised even the rival camp and earned him applause from the both the fans.

The teams were tied 2-2 at the break. Playing their semi-finals matches on the same day, the teams showed no signs of fatigue and continuously searched for the match-winner, however, both the teams failed to find the winner.

In the resultant tie-breaker, Boom Boom Boys failed to replicate their semi-final performance as their shooters failed miserably with Vailankanni Boys walking away victorious 6-5.

Joel earned the Man-of-the-Match award for his brilliant performance in the final.

The winners were richer by Rs 70,000 while the runners-up had to settle for Rs 40,000.

NGC Coach Caetano Pinho and guest of honour Sahil Tavora gave away the prizes to the winners and runners-up.
