CHANDOR: Vedant Halarnekar of Ribandar emerged winner of the 47th All Goa Cycle Race organised by Guirdolim Club in association with Bhise Brothers at Guirdolim, on Tuesday.

It was a closely contested race as Vedanta who completed the race in 42.07 minutes was closely followed by Antonio Fernandes from Cansaulim clocking 42.09 minutes. 

The third place was claimed by Sidhart Nath clocking 42.13 minutes. Cash prizes of Rs 12,000, 10,000, and 8,000 were awarded along with certificates and trophies to the winners and runners-up. 

In the college category Sidharth Nath from S.P. Chowgule college, Margao secured the 1st place and Pradip Kolhapte from Govt. College Quepem bagged the 2nd place. 

A special prize (Schnell Cycle worth Rs 15,000) donated by Jose Cabral Enterprises was won by George Vaz for being the first from amongst contestants from Chandor and Guirdolim. 

Veteran cyclist Antonio Fernandes won the first place in the above 45 years category. 

All racers were awarded consolation prizes and certificates. 

Guest of honour Sudesh Bhise (Social worker, Cuncolim Constituency) complimented Guirdolim Club for completing 47 editions of the race and expressed his happiness for being associated with the cycle race for last 3 years with the promise to continue his association in the coming years. 

Chief guest, Arjuna awardee, Bhramanand Shankwalkar in his address stressed the importance of cycling as a fitness activity. He complimented the past and present executive committees whom he described as unsung heroes for continuing with the race for so many years and praised all those who contributed to its success. Patron of the club Antanasio Antao, Siddesh Bhise, Guirdolim Club president Patwin Fizardo, award winning cyclist of yesteryears Pandari Naik,  Lloyd Antao were the other dignitaries present on the Dais. Darwin Cardoso proposed the vote of thanks.
