MARGAO: St Anthony Sports Club, Colva registered a solitary goal victory over Panchawadi United Sports Club to enter the quarter-final of the 39th Cana Benaulim football tournament organized by Cana Benaulim SA, at St John the Baptist ground, Dando-Benaulim, on Monday.
The first session was evenly poised with the strikers of both the teams wasting some early opportunities. Colva made the breakthrough through a set piece after Jostan Pereira's curling flag-kick was connected by striker Sneden Rodrigues, giving no chance to the rival goalkeeper Milton Cruz.
In the second session, Panchwadi United made several forays into the Colva territory and on one such occasion, Colva stopper Jovisco Fernandes handled the ball, resulting into a penalty.
The spot-kick was taken by Panchawadi United medio Aaron Almeida but the latter’s weak effort was easily blocked by Colva goalkeeper Costa.
Colva then defended well to keep their lead with defenders Jovisco, Mackson Fernandes and Jesus Cardozo standing rock solid.
