MANDREM: Reigning National Kite surfing champion Varun Narayanan was one of the first amongst the ten kite surfers who registered at the end of the first day of registration for the first Kitesurfing Nationals and Ranking Championship being held in Mandrem by Premier Kiteboarding Association on Friday.

“I am in to hold on to my crown but most important for me is to be able to enjoy my kite surfing. How I finish is secondary,” stated Varun as he completed his registration.

“I have raced before but this is my first kite surfing nationals. I am thrilled because of the experience I intend to draw from this championship,” said Keona Rajani from Parra, Goa who, at 18, is the youngest participant.

“I come to Morjim to practice with my parents when I get the chance. The pandemic made coming for practice difficult. However, kite surfing gives me a thrill that makes me overcome obstacles,” said Keona as she rushed to the beach for a swim.

“It is nice that the organisers have kept a window open for foreigners to participate to add zest to the championship. I have been training kite surfing and windsurfing for the last 22 years in Goa and I am in to see how competitive my trainees are, “disclosed 62-year-old Ulli from Europe.
