Substitute Sahil helps St Savio’s SC to collect  full points, Albert Developers secure win

MAPUSA: St Savio’s SC, Calangute, came from a goal down to edge past Goa Velha SC 2-1 in the GFA’s Division I League match played at Duler Stadium, here, on Tuesday.

 Goa Velha SC colts, who had poor outing in their earlier matches, started earnestly and stunned their opponents in the 14th minute, when a stiff grounder by U-21 Schubert Borges saw the ball sneak into the far corner of the goal beating St Savio’s SC custodian Soma Korgaonkar 1-0.

 St Savio’s SC time and again attacked the rival citadel but striker Andrus John was caught in an offside position thrice.

 St Savio SC’s almost levelled terms in the 22nd minute, but a rasping left-footer by Latesh Mandrekar banged the inner post of the horizontal crossbar and rebounded into play.

 In the 28th minute, Goa Velha SC should have doubled their lead but medio Aaron Rodrigues after collecting a long floater from Francis Pawar darted inside the 18-yard box but missed his footing to find keeper Soma clearing the ball to safety.  In a counter attack, St Savio’s SC Hilton Fernandes saw his strike on entering the penalty box hit the side netting.

 St Savio SC’s were a transformed unit on crossing over and came with repeated raids on the rival territory.  A fierce shot by Latesh Mandrekar at the goal was blocked by defender Franky Oliveiro.

 However, in the 55th minute, finally St Savio SC’s managed to find their equaliser where substitute Shadab Sheikh delightfully lobbed the ball over the onrushing Goa Velha SC custodian Agnelo Noronha which brushed keeper’s gloves as it entered the goal, 1-1.

 Just five minutes later, substitute Sahil Jalmi brilliantly finished the move initiated by Shadab Sheikh into a goal to put St Savio SC ahead, 2-1.

 In the added time, a teasing corner by Goa Velha SC’s Danny Dias was smartly headed at the goal by Franky Oliveiro which was superbly saved by custodian Soma.  Minute’s later, goalkeeper Soma fisted Danny’s free-kick to safety.

 At Poriat ground, Albert Developers SC edged past St Anthony’s SC, Marna- Siolim, by 2-1 margin.

 In the very 3rd minute, Albert Developers SC took the lead from a self-goal by Joanathan Pereira.

 Just four minutes before the breather, a defence splitting pass from Shankar to his goalkeeper saw Cyden intercept and score the second goal, 2-0.

 On crossing over, after St Anthony’s SC colts exerted immense pressure on the rival citadel. In the 63rd minute, Videsh sent a through ball to Pusparaj Mandrekar, who scored with a neat placement, 2-1.


Goa Police thrash SJ Areal 

RAIA: Goa Police thrashed Sao Jose de Areal SC 8-1 to register a win, at Rosary church ground, Navelim.

Leading by 2-0 at the breather, Nakul Gawas scored a brace, while Sunny Fernandes, Abdul Khan, Deepak Naik, Bhavesh Candolkar, Tarak Khandolkar and Mayuresh Naik scored a goal each for Goa Police. 

The only goal for Sao Jose de Areal SC was netted by substitute Aryan Carvalho.

A match between Youth Club of Manora and Velsao SCC played at Cansaulim sports complex ground ended in a 1-1 draw. 

Sweden Barbosa gave lead to YC Manora in the 82nd minute of the match. Deepak Kadam equalised in the 85th minute for Velsao SCC.
