VASCO: Special Olympics Goa contingent got a rousing welcome as the athletes and 73 coaches led by Victor R. Vaz the National Sports Director , Special Olympics Bharat and also Head of the Mission arrived at the Goa International Airport, Dabolim, on Saturday.

The welcome team lead by the Area Director Vrushali Cardozo , the principals of the schools, teachers  and parents who waited to receive the medal winners back home.

The team which was a part of the 2019 Special Olympics World Summer Games at Abu Dhabi which won 23 medals. (5 gold, 8 silver and 10 bronze)

The Indian contingent won a total 368 medals for the country and thus secured third position where 190 countries participated.

 In the total medal tally Bharat secured the first position.

Victor Vaz congratulated all the winners and thanked the parents for trusting their children with special Olympics. 

He also thanked the schools for all their co operations and the Media for supporting Special Olympics through their event.

The debut athletes from Goa, Rupesh, Sabita Yadav, Sejal, Harshad Deepak had a tough competition but emerged victorious winning the gold medals respectively

As the games continued to unfold, the medal tally of the Goan athletes continued to add to the Indian medal tally.
