Titans, Lourdes, Panjim Basketeers move into quarters

PANJIM: Hosts YMCA Titans registered an exciting 45–31 win over Don Bosco Oratory, Panjim to seal a berth in the quarter-finals of the Summer Slam basketball tournament organised by YMCA Titans under the aegis of Goa Basketball Association, at Don Bosco Oratory, Panjim. 

Chhavy Sirohi (12 points), Rahul D'Souza (7 points) and Jaden Vas (7 points) were the top scorers for the host  while Michael Dias (16 points) waged a spirited battle for the DBO team. 

In another encounter, Lourdes Basketball Club comprising several talented Junior basketball players, recorded a commanding 46 – 27 win over Raiders to also cement their place in the quarter-finals. 

Jeshua Pinto (10 points) and Daniel Godhino (8 points) stood out for the winners with Kyle D'Souza (9 points) top scored for the Raiders team. 

In the Women’s category opening league round, YMCA Infiknights breezed past Sharada Dashing Damsels winning 62-18. Top scorers for Infiknights were Rachel Raposa (21 points) and Gayle Gomes (8 points). 

Audrey Menezes (6 points) was the leading scorer for the losing team. 

In the final match of the opening day, Panjim Basketeers put up a dominant performance to punch their ticket into the quarter-finals at the expense of Assailants, winning 55 - 31. 

The winning team were powered by Sahil Karale 21pts, Omkar Chopade 12 pts and Dattaraj Brahmnekar (11 points) while Rohit Nazir with 10 points was the pick of the Assailants players.
