PANJIM: Karnataka’s Tushar Suveer will take on Maharashtra’s Pranay Shettigar (3) in the U- 17 boys singles final, at the Yonex-Sunrise All India Sub junior Ranking badminton tournament 2022 in Goa.
In the U- 17 semi finals, at Manohar Parrikar Indoor stadium, Navelim on Friday, Tushar who had earlier knocked out number four seed Dhruv Negi (Uttarakhand) caused yet another upset, defeating top seed Sanskar Saraswat (1), Rajasthan, 21-13, 21-18 to storm into the final. In the other semis, Pranay was in complete control against Haryana boy Gagan, winning 21-11, 21-7. In the U- 17 girls singles semi finals, Andhra Pradesh Girl Navya Kanderi, who had earlier stunned India International player Unnati Hooda in the quarters, could not carry the same form into the semis, losing 21-16 14-21 21-12 to Telengana's Sreshta Reddy K. in a closely fought match. Jiya Rawat (7), HAR, def. Aishani Tiwari, GUJ, 21-17 21-8 in the other semis.
In the boys singles U- 15, Abhinav Garg (9), KTK, defeated Ritom Howbora, ASM, 21-12 21-16 to set up a title clash with Prateek Koundilya, KTK, who defeated Monarch Borgohain, ASM, 21-12 21-11 in the other semis. In the girls singles U-15 semi finals, Naishaa Kaur Bhatoye (1), MAH, registered a 21-15 21-18 win over Ayati Dubey, GUJ. She will face the challenge of Tanvi Reddy Andluri (5), (Telengana), who defeated Punjab Girl Tanvi Sharma 21-15 21-19 in the other semis.
Navelim MLA Shri Ullas Yashwant Tuenkar graced the semi-finals. The eight day national ranking tournament which has been organised by Goa Badminton Association under the aegis of Badminton Association of India, and in collaboration with North Goa District Badminton Association and the Sports Authority of Goa, concludes on Saturday.
