RAIA: Varca Sports Club pipped Sporting Club of Davorlim by a solitary goal to enter the quarter-finals of Cana-Benaulim Panchayat Cup inter-village football tournament played at Dando football ground, Benaulim, on Monday.
SC Davorlim had to be blamed themselves for the defeat after missing easy scoring chances with the culprits being Velroy Colaco and Ajay Raj. Varca SC had to thank their goalkeeper Francis, who made three brilliant saves. At the end of the first session, SC Davorlim wasted a golden opportunity when skipper Inamdar’s penalty struck the cross piece.
A penalty was awarded when Varca SC goalkeeper brought down Delton Colaco inside the box.
Varca SC scored the match-winner at the start of the second session when a curling free-kick from Joeburn Cardozo flew past goalkeeper Avin Vales.
