MAPUSA: Vasco Sports Club had a comfortable outing as they humbled relegation battling Curtorim Gymkhana 6-1 in the seventh round match of the Goa Pro League, at Duler Stadium, here, on Sunday.
Vasco SC moved to the second spot of the standings with 12 points while Curtorim Gymkhana are yet to open their account.
In the very fourth minute, Kingslee Fernandes made a good run down the right flank and set up
Chinedu Ejiogu right inside the six-yard box, only to see the Nigerian import blast the ball wide.
Minutes later, Chinedu made amends for his earlier error when he positioned himself perfectly to head home Hayson Velho’s cross.
Curtorim Gymkhana made several good moves throughout the first session and were rightly awarded an indirect free-kick from the edge of the six-yard box in the 32nd minute when after keeper Jerson Pereira collected a back pass from defender Varney Kalon. Anthony Dias who stepped
forward to take the kick made no mistake in giving his side the precious equalizer.
Crossing over, Curtorim Gymkhana failed to retain the momentum and were pinned in their
own half for major portion of the match.
In the 48th minute, Curtorim Gymkhana keeper Muhamad Shaikh came with a fine save to deny Melistan Pereira’s scorching 18-yard strike from entering the nets.
After a couple of missed chances, Chinedu once again put his team ahead, firing home the ball of a Nasar PA pass to make it 2-1.
From there on Curtorim seemed to have given up hope and Vasco SC took full advantage of the situation and fired in four more goals through Agnelo D’Souza, Shubham Desai, Hayson Velho and stopper back Nigerian Varney K Kalon to make it 6-1.
