PANJIM: Vasco Sports Club defeated Sesa Football Academy 2-1 in the Goa Professional League at Sirsaim ground, on Monday.

U-20 Altaf Navloor and Micky Vaz scored for Vasco while Sesa FA managed to reduce the margin through Melvin Lobo.

The win took Vasco SC to 16 points from 17 matches while Sesa FA dropped to 11th position with 15 points from 14 games.  With a balanced game in the first 45 minutes, neither side were able to break the deadlock in the first half. However in the second half, Vasco SC seized their opportunity when they were awarded a free-kick in a dangerous position. Vasco’s Suraj Mondal played in a perfect delivery from the free-kick in the box, which was brilliantly met by Altaf, who leapt highest to score past the Sesa FA keeper with a clinical tap in.

Once up by a goal, Vasco SC looked better with the ball and soon within seven minutes doubled the account through second half substitute Micky Vaz.

Once again it was Suraj Mondal who did the initial spadework and played a defence splitting pass to Mathew, who dribbled past couple of Sesa FA defenders and set up Micky Vaz, who placed the ball into the net to make it 2-0.

Sesa FA weren’t at their best in the game, however, they had their chances but their players failed to get the ball at the back of the net. But they were handed a chance when Vasco SC’s Sanwil brought down Caitano Viegas in the box forcing referee to point straight towards the spot. Sanwil was flashed yellow card for his offence.

Sesa FA’s skipper Melvin Lobo stepped over and coolly converted from the spot kick, 1-2.
