UTORDA: Velsao Sports and Cultural Club beat Corps of Signals 1-0 in the Goa Football Association Goa Professional League match played at Sports Authority of Goa ground, Utorda, on Thursday.

The win takes Velsao on 20 points from 19 games while Signals remain on 16 points from 17 games.

The match turned out pretty enticing as the mid-table teams battled from the word go. With handful of home fans backing the Velsao SCC, the team made inroads in the initial stages of the game through hardworking Bersal Viegas and Jesloy Moniz but their regular striker Laiwang Bohham wasn’t having a good day as he was well marked by the Corps of Signals men and struggled to make the best of the chances he had.

With the first half turning pretty stressful and frustrating, the second half started in favour of Velsao as they enjoyed possession in the third quarter.

The goal came in the 59th minute when Jesloy received a ball from the flank and the land rolled it past the confused keeper. Corps of Signals players played pretty physical with a direct approach towards the players that restricted a clean play for either sides. Velsao’s usual star players – Joseph and Laiwang were both subbed off in the second session as the duo had a forgetful evening.
