RAIA: Verna SC defeated Raia Sporting Club 4-1 to march into the quarter-finals of 40th Sao Jose Areal Panchayat Cup organised by Sao Jose de Areal SC, at Padribhat ground, Sao Jose de Areal, on Tuesday.
Lenon Fernandes of Verna SC was the star of the match with his dribbling and shooting power and for Raia SC Garison Fernandes gave his best.
Garrison missed two chances in the 4th and 29th minutes. Then it was Verna SC, Lenon, who left no stone unturned, fired two goals from close range in the 12th and 9th minutes.
Later, Salvador Gama and Nevil Menezes netted a goal each in the 29th and 64th minutes respectively. Just few minutes left for the final whistle, Raia SC pulled a goal back Garison. Man-of-the-match award was presented to Lenon Pereira.
