QUEPEM: Verna Veterans got the better of Vasco Veterans 1-0 to lift the 6th Quepem Veterans Cup in the final of the Quepem Veterans football tournament, organised by Navyug Vikas Manch, Quepem, played at Quepem Sports Complex, on recently.

QUEPEM: Verna Veterans got the better of Vasco Veterans 1-0 to lift the 6th Quepem Veterans Cup in the final of the Quepem Veterans football tournament, organised by Navyug Vikas Manch, Quepem, played at Quepem Sports Complex, on recently.

Just in the 4th minute itself, Vasco striker Francis D’Souza should have netted but his long range shot was denied by the Verna cross bar.

Minutes later, Francis Calado netted the match winner with a placement shot off Johnson connect.

After the break, Francis D’Souza tried a solo effort with his left footer for Vasco but to his dismay Camilo Barretto keeper of Verna saved his shot brilliantly in the 50th minute.

Individual prizes were awarded as follows: Best goalkeeper: Camilo Baretto of Verna, Best player of the tournament: Vishant Pednekar of Vasco, Best defender: Sheikh Naizi of Vasco, Best half: Uday Naik of Vasco.

The winners were awarded Rs. 20,000 while the runners-up pocketed Rs.15,000 plus trophies.

Vice-Chairperson of Quepem Municipal Council, Paulo Fernandes was the chief guest and gave away the prizes to winners and runners-up in the presence of other dignitaries and match officials.
