LOUTOLIM: Salcete Giant Verna Veterans defeated Vasco Veterans 4-2 in the final of 1st All Goa eight-a-side football tournament organised by Loutulim Veterans at Loutulim ground on Sunday.
In a face-paced final Verna took the lead in the 5th minute through Satan Colaco. But Vishant Pednekar equalised from the spot giving no chance to the rival keeper.
Minutes before the break Uday Naik broke the deadlock to help Vasco Veterans take the lead (2-1).
In the second half Verna went all out to restore parity and succeeded when Remedios Barretto drew level and also scored again to help Verna Strikers take the lead. Marcus Carvalho made it safe scoring the fourth for Verna Strikers to take home the trophy.
Verna Veterans were richer by Rs 35000 besides the trophy while Vasco Veterans got Rs 25000 and a trophy
Following prizes were awarded: Best Defender Vincent Colaco (Verna veterans); First scorer of the final Satan Colaco (Verna veterans); Best Striker Remedios Barreto (Verna Veterans); Best Goalkeeper of final Anand Adkonkar (Vasco Veterans) and Best midfielder Uday Naik (Vasco Veterans).
Francis (Excel Rovers Veterans) was given a special prize for scoring a surprising goal of the tournament.
Ex-MLA Aleixo Sequeira was the chief guest and gave away the prizes in the presence other dignitaries.
