Nets four in Flaming Oranje 8-1 win; Riad nets brace while Mauvin, Marcus score a goal each

PANJIM: A four-goal blitz by Victorino Fernandes enabled Sporting Clube de Goa to register a thumping 8-1 win over Corps of Signals in the Goa Professional League match organised by GFA at Duler Stadium, here, on Thursday.

Sporting Clube moved to second place with 22 points from 10 matches, while Corps of Signals continue their struggle in the league and remain at the bottom of the table with just three points from eight matches.

The Hero-of-the-Match was Victorino, who scored four goals, while Fady Riad got a brace and Mauvin Borges and Marcus Mascarenhas also got their names on the score sheet for Sporting with Pawan Thakur being the scorer for Corps of Signals.

Pawan Thakur gave Corps of Signals the early lead in the very 5th minute when his shot from long distance found the nets with Sporting Clube keeper Melroy Fernandes beaten by the sudden dip, 1-0.

However, their joy was short-lived as Sporting Clube responded from the early jolt and levelled terms in the 12th minute through Victorino who finished clinically from a corner taken by Cajetan Fernandes 1-1.

Egyptian Riad then made it 2-1 in the 24th minute tapping the ball into the net from a rebound from a shot taken by Alton Vaz which was smartly stopped by keeper Binu.

Once the second goal went in, there was no stopping for Flaming Oranje wherein Victornio was the main architect as he got the second goal tapping the ball into the net from a cross by U-20 Joston Cardoz, 3-1.

Crossing over, Corps of Signals substitute keeper Niyas Mon came to his side rescue denying Marcus in finding the net but could do little in stopping Victorino in getting his hat-trick after some good work by Riad, 4-1.

Corps of Signals need to thank their keeper for keeping the score down as he once again blocked Victorino’s shot in the 60th minute but in the 64th minute Marcus made it 5-1 after Mauvin’s shot was stopped by the keeper.

Flaming Oranje looking to strengthen their goal difference in the league table fired in two more goals through Victorino (78th min) and Mauvin (79th min).

Corps of Signals who were completely pedestrian had one finally chance in the 91st minute but keeper Melroy who had nothing much to do today stopped Suklab Bordolia in finding the nets but Riad who had an outstanding match for Sporting Clube finally rounded the score tally to 8-1 with a solo effort.
