Vijay-Tejas, Sonu-Ravindra storm into next round of men’s doubles

PANJIM: Tournament favourites Vijay Siwach and Tejas Shevde got off to a blistering start with a 6-0 drubbing of Abhimanyu and Sankalp in the Gadre Gaspar Dias Open, on Wednesday.

  Vijay Siwach and Tejas Shevde playing on the blue courts of the Clube Tennis De Gasper Dias played to their strengths and took the first game comfortably. 

The pair continued to dominate and won the set 6-0.

On court two, Sonu and Ravindra Kadam brought their A game and brushed aside the challenge of Shaunak and Ajay. Both, Sonu Todu and Ravindra kept the pressure on Shaunak and Ajay from the beginning taking the first three games. 

The duo continued in the same fashion and closed out the set 6-0 to take themselves into the next round of the doubles category.

In the Mixed Doubles category, Santosh Gorawar and Jisha Menon scored a win over Lucio Fernandes and Vinita 6-2 while Anant Kochhar and Tashina Singh got the better of Benjamin Craven and Eva 6-3. 

Playing on court 1 Santosh and Jisha Menon won their set comfortably. 

The mixed doubles duo entertained the fans on their way to a 6-2 win. 

Lucio and Vinita did put Santosh and Jisha in a bit of trouble in the middle of the set to win 2 games but Santosh and Eva eventually won.

In the other game of the mixed doubles, Anant and Tashina overcame a tougher opponent in Ben and Eva to win 6-3.

With the crowd cheering on the future stars, Sukesh defeated Kabir 6-3 in the U-12 boys’ category while Aryan Menon won against Aryan Kunkolinkar in an exciting game that eventually ended in Aryan Menon’s favour 7-5. 

Saiel Gajinkar won against Adrian 6-0 while Darian won against Mika Sheth 6-2 to progress into the next round.

The U-16 Boys category saw Saiel Gajinkar excel once again as he got the better of Jaden 6-2 while Vastav Rivonkar won against Arav Eshwar in a see saw battle. 

Both players went head to head against each other returning serve after serve. Vastav eventually got the break of serve to win 7-6.
