We are a team that want to achieve big: Lobera

PANJIM: After enthralling the fans in the first home game with a nervy win against Bengaluru FC, FC Goa coach Sergio Lobera aims to continue with the winning momentum when his side takes on Kerala Blasters at the Nehru Stadium, Fatorda, on Saturday.

“I think there were a lot of positives from the game as well as plenty of learning. What we have is 3 points against a strong rival and I think we were superior when both teams had 11 players on the field. I think the support from the fans was another huge positive and we hope to continue working to keep the positives coming,” said Sergio.

Kerala Blasters have remained unbeaten in the tournament registering three draws against ATK, Jamshedpur and Mumbai City. The Rene Muelensteen coached team has managed to frustrate their opponents with a great defensive display.

However, Sergio said it’s too early to draw any conclusion about the same adding that the visitors are a strong side.

“I think we've played very few games so far to draw any conclusions about other teams. I think Kerala is a good team and not just a strong defensive unit. They are well organised and capable of winning. We have to create opportunities for ourselves and work hard to ensure we take the chances that come our way.

“The most important for me is my team independent of what the other team is doing. Up until this point in time, my team has fought very well and we have to maintain our focus on that. We are a team that want to achieve big things this season and we'll do that by focusing on ourselves,” added the former La Masia coach.

FC Goa’s attack has been phenomenal wherein they managed to score eight goals but the defence is an area of concern. The Gaurs have already conceded seven.

“It's obvious that there are things we need to improve upon. This is a team constructed from scratch and we have had little time together.”

“We are an attacking team that takes risks during transitions of play and while chasing goals we take risks. And this is something that we need to work on but having scored a lot of goals this year, I consider that a very good positive.”
