AGENCIES, BHUBANES WAR: FC Goa coach Derrick Pereira will face host of selection problems after the unavailability of 9 players —five suspended and four injured —in their semi-finals clash against East Bengal.
“Before I talk about tomorrow’s game, an unfortunate incident occurred in the last match and everybody knows who started it. My players were suspended for defending themselves. Today we are in a situation where lot of things are going in my mind for tomorrow’s match,” expressed FC Goa coach Derrick Pereira addressing the pre-match conference on Monday.
“As it is right now, four players are out with injuries and five are suspended and we have now fourteen players including two goalkeepers,” he added.
“Last night when I went to the medical room I saw four players out there due to injury. I’m thinking about the playing eleven. Possibilities are there that, we might not have the eleven players on the pitch tomorrow and maybe we have to start with eight players the way we ended in the last match,” said Derrick
However, despite all odds, coach Derrick Pereira is determined that his side ‘will fight and give their best’ on Moday.
“I’m really confident that whoever takes the field tomorrow will fight it out and do their best. Tomorrow is the chance for few players to prove themselves. I’m sure they will put up a good performance,” explained the former Salgaocar FC coach.
With some star players out of action, FC Goa might be forced to start with Anthony, Manvir and Prathesh.
“It’s an opportunity for the young players who haven't started in the entire season.
What we will be missing on the pitch is the understanding and combination play but we will stick to our idea —attacking football and there won’t be any changes to our style of play,” revealed Derrick.
When asked about playing against EB, Derrick said, “I think they have a full squad but it won’t be easy for them as we will do our best and put up a good fight and perform to our potential,” concluded Derrick.
