Chief Minister, Digamber Kamat was unanimously elected president of Swimming Federation of India (SFI) at the Annual General Body meeting today in Margao.
Other members: General secretary Virendra Nanavati (Gujarat). Treasurer S. Rajiv (Kerala). Vice- presidents Ramanuj Mukhopadhya (Bengal), Balraj Sharma (Punjab), Bhawani Shankar Sharma (MP), T. D. Vijay Raghavan (Karnataka), Rajkumar (Delhi). Joint secretaries B. S. Rathod (Rajasthan), M. Ramakrishna (Andhra Pradesh), R. B. Pandey (Bihar), H. G. Bhagat (Daman and Diu).
Following members were appointed by the president: Associate vice-presidents: Pitamber Jena (Orissa), B. C. Singh (Manipur), R. N. Jaiprakash (Tamil Nadu). Associate joint secretaries: Ravin Kapur (UP), Kishor Vaidya (Maharashtra) and Ranjan Chakraborty (Tripura).
In all, 23 units attended the meeting from all over the country.
Hussain Al Musallam, vice-president, FINA and director general of OCA., K. Murugan, vice-president of Indian Olympic Association and C. Chinnappa, Dy. secretary MYSA. were the observers of FINA, Indian Olympic Association and Government of India Sports Ministry respectively.
V. S. Borkar was the returning officer who conducted the elections.
The house also decided to conduct the Commonwealth Water Polo Championship in Goa in last week of October. The federation honoured Hussain Al Musallam by presenting a memento.
Murugan praised the progress of swimming in last four years and congratulated the federation for the achievements of their swimmers and wished them success for the Commonwealth Games.
