Milagres Sports Club, Mapusa got the better of Parish Youth Nuvem 5-4 via the tie-breaker after both the teams were involved in a 1-all draw in the finals of Vagator Parish Youth Soccer Trophy 2010 Inter-Village football tournament organised by Vagator Parish Youth at Ozrant ground, Vagator on Sunday.
In an exciting final which was witnessed by a huge crowd, Nuvem began on a promising note and could have forged ahead in the 10th minute but Jose Colaca shot into the waiting of Milagres keeper Wilber.
Milagres too had an opportunity to take the lead in the 20th minute but Nuvem keeper Flyod came to his side's rescue following a goalmouth melee.
Nuvem finally took the lead in the 22nd minute following a defensive lapse through Jose Colaco who headed home beating Milagres keeper Wilber.
Down by a goal, Milagres mounted pressure and succeeded in restoring parity in the 5th minute of second half through a penalty by Anup Govekar as a Nuvem defender handled the ball in the danger zone.
With scores even, the teams fought tooth and nail but failed to find the net again. The winners were then decided on penalties. Milagres won 4-3 on tie-breaker. Anup Govekar, Jolene Fernandes, Shailesh Misquin and Aires Fernandes converted for Milagres while Remy Colaco, Neves Noronha and Nevid Fernandes were on target for Nuvem.
Milagres won the Vagator Parish Youth 2010 Soccer Trophy and a Rs 25,000 while Nuvem Parish Youth had to settle for the runners-up trophy and Rs 15,000.
Following individual prizes were awarded: Best goalkeeper: Wilber Menezes (Milagres). best midfielder Remy Colaco (PY Nuvem). Best defender Anup Govekar (Milagres). Best striker Jose Colaco (PY Nuvem). Best player of tournament Sandeep Dhargalkar (Sodiem Siolim).
Uday Palyekar (social worker), Vinod Phadke (GCA treasurer), Sadanand Verenkar (Sunshine Electric Co.), Fr. Herculano Correia, Parish Priest of Bastora, Lavino Rebello Sarpanch of Anjuna-Caisua and GFA EC Member, Anthony Draga, Dinesh Patil VP member, Anjuna-Caisua and Hanumant Lingudkar gave away the prizes. Janice D'souza proposed the vote of thanks.
