MAPUSA: A first half brace from Larry Silveria took Portais Sporting back to the top of the table, after overcoming Fr Agnelo Youth Club 4-1 in GFA’s U-14 league at Batim ground, Monday. Portais led 2-0 at the break.
It took just ten minutes for Portais to take the lead, when Larry tricked his way to the edge of the box and planted the ball into the top corner with a crisp drive to leave the rival goalkeeper clutching at thin air.
Larry wasn’t finished just yet as six minutes later from a similar position he advanced forward towards the 18-yard box, but this time he drove the ball low with conviction, to double the lead for Portais.
In the 23rd minute, Chandan Gawas controlled the ball from an in-swinging corner and nicely stroked the ball home to pull a goal back for Fr Agnelo.
Two minutes after resumption, Salu Santos tapped in a cross from Neves Xaiver for Portais’ third. Twelve minutes from the end, Portais’s Saish Naik managed to flick Salu’s corner kick into the net with his head.
Portais moved to 19 points from seven matches, ahead of Sporting Clube de Goa on goal difference, who are also on 19 points from the same number of games. Both teams will face each other on Thursday to decide the group winners .
