PANJIM: The High Court of Bombay at Goa Monday directed that the ritual of qurbani be performed under strict police security at the Goa Meat Complex (GMC) abattoir at Usgao from October 16 to 18.
The division bench of Justices Mohit Shah and N H Patil was hearing a petition filed by All Goa Muslim Jamaats on Monday which apprehended that the Muslim community will be prevented from carrying out the ritual.
The Goa government, Goa Meat Complex, Directorate of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services, State Committee of Slaughter House and NGO Govansha Raksha Abhiyan were made respondents in the case.
The HC order has been disposed of after State gave an assurance that they have spoken to the local authorities about police protection while slaughtering animals at the slaughter house during the festival. The association also sought additional slaughter houses to perform the ritual. While the Court did not approve of this, the government assured to set up additional slaughter houses for Bakri-Id next year.
