MARGAO: Fisheries Minister Avertano Furtado on Thursday said the government has proposed to construct bridges across Zuari and at Khandepar.
While saying the government has approved consultancy for the purpose of bridge construction, Avertano further said work on the district hospital building at South Goa has been speeded up, while announcing plans to open new para-medical course.
Speaking at the Liberation Day function held at the South Goa District Collectorate parade grounds after unfurling the national flag, the fisheries minister said the government has drawn up plans to construct a by-pass road from Jackniband to Ravanfond in Navelim to ease traffic congestion, adding that work on the Nuvem by-pass has already begun.
The function was attended by MLAs Reginaldo Lourenco, Caitu Silva and Benjamin D’Silva, besides Margao Municipal Chief Dayanand Deulkar, District Collector N D Agrawal, SP Shekar Prabhudessai, government functionaries, councillors and freedom fighters.
Saying that peace is a pre-requisite to progress and prosperity, he appealed to the people to move ahead with a resolve to make the State harmonious, peaceful and ideal in the country. “Goa has a tradition of living peacefully with its communal amity. Destructive activities within the country hinder the progress and prosperity of the State. The progress of the nation depends on its economy,” he said, while underlining the need to protect and preserve the hard earned freedom.
On the occasion, Avertano saluted the freedom fighters for their valiant fight against the Portuguese regime and for shedding their blood for the State’s liberation.
