Colva police station short-staffed

Colva Police Station ~ which has jurisdiction over the Salcete's entire coastal belt, spanning from Cavelossim to Majorda ~ has got a new station in-charge, PI Uttam Raut Dessai.

MARGAO: Colva Police Station ~ which has jurisdiction over the Salcete’s entire coastal belt, spanning from Cavelossim to Majorda ~ has got a new station in-charge, PI Uttam Raut Dessai. 

But, a change in guard brings no good news for the men-in-uniform attached to this coastal police station. It may sound strange, that Colva police has only one police sub-inspector, with the department not filling up the vacancies for months now. 

“One PI and a PSI cannot run a police station whose jurisdiction extends to the entire coastal belt”, rued a police official. The police also face a shortage of personnel, including head constables and constables for quite some time. Chief Minister, Manohar Parrikar’s assurance to Betalbatim villagers to beef up patrolling along Salcete coastal belt following the attack on two women has not changed the ground reality till date. Police sources say there are no adequate cops at the station to attend to matters, leave alone deploying more cops for patrolling duties.
