Review:
After the death of his parents, level-headed Warren is brought up by his uncle (Justino Fernandes) and aunt Succorin (Dola Mascarenhas). After pursuing his studies in engineering, he is all set to work on a ship and make his future.
But tragedy strikes unexpectedly and his tussle with a truck driver leads to a bitter fight with Katimanni (Mozin Travasso) and his men, who are involved in illegal mining and other notorious activities.
Due to threats by Katimanni, Warren’s uncle and aunt throw him out of the house. Warren then gets entangled in the web of the politicians, especially the minister P K Borkar (Darshan Lolienkar).
As the youth is a thorn in his side, the minister employs his PA to eliminate Warren. But in the bargain, his friend, David (Kenny), is killed.
Now, will his association with a social worker, Jack (Fermino Goes), who desires to enter politics, help Warren in making a bright future for himself? Or will he be used and cast aside? How does his fiancée, Daisy (Hasina Shaikh), help him realise his dreams? At the end, how does Warren fight evil?
Under the banner ‘Haywar Productions’, Konkani film ‘War-Onn’ is a fight against the corruption dominant in the political arena and the evil that continues to prevail in the social strata. It conveys the strong message that the fight must go on to uproot corruption and eliminate the corrupt, come what may. But in ground reality, is the mission ahead possible and can it be accomplished successfully?
Mithun Mahambrey, initially as the cool guy and a little later as a robust and ferocious man, has played his role quite comfortably. Hasina Shaikh as the love interest looks cool in her character and getup. Justin and Dola dole out fine performances. Darshan Lolienkar as the minister stands tall in dialogue and body language. Fermino Goes displays sufficient talent as the social worker. Kenny, Nato and Luis Bachan deliver their brief roles with ease, with some rib-tickling comedy.
Some of the songs, with foot-tapping music by Elick Vaz, deserve a mention. The fight stunts and the choreography in the dance sequences could have been improved with better visual effects.
The film will be screened at Ravindra Bhavan, Margao, on November 8 and 14, at 7.30 pm and at Marquinez Palace, Panaji, on December 2 and 18, at 6.30 pm.
