Share your GPS location with anyone using this app. It’s handy when you’re a stranger in a new place, and have no idea what directions to give to the person at the other end. Your location details expire at the time of your choosing. This Webby award-winning app is ideal for any social situation, from treks to road trips.

NGPay

Although there are hundreds of apps available for shopping and booking tickets, the versatility of its service makes NGPay unique. This app is a one stop solution for most of the travel requirements. It helps book air tickets, bus and train tickets, and even movie tickets. The app also lets the user shop from thousands of online stores and send gifts from one’s mobile itself. One can book his/her air tickets from airline carriers such as Jet Airways, SpiceJet, GoAir, Indigo and get railway tickets from IRCTC. The users can also recharge their mobile phones with NGPay.

Tripigator

An itinerary-planning web application set up by IIT-Kharagpur alumni Mukul Garg, Karteek Narumanchi and Piyush Grover, Tripigator was recently chosen as the official travel planner by the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India. One can customise his/her trip by adding multiple destinations, dates of travel, number of persons, cost (budget to luxury), interests (adventure, culture, family, romance, etc) and ‘energy level’ (relaxed to active). These preferences are then used by Tripigator’s heuristic engine to create an itinerary, complete with flight and stay options and recommendations on what to do. Most importantly, the engine also computes the cost for the trip.

Couchsurfing

Couchsurfing is a global community of 10 million people in more than 2,00,000 cities who share their life, their world, their journey. It is a great way of exploring places on a budget without spending a lot of money on accommodation. Moreover, one can meet amazing people who can look after you and show you around the city. The app supports searching for and joining Couchsurfing events, and allows members to find hosts, exchange messages, and interact via the couch request system. With the new update to the app, many other new features like photo uploads and notifications have been added.

GateGuru

GateGuru helps manage an entire day of travel. You can navigate the app as you like. The Home screen gives the user direct access to the Airport Card, already pre-populated with a list of the closest airports. The user can enter his/her itinerary and GateGuru connects the dots for the user. Some of the relevant information a traveller can get includes airport food and amenity information customised to the arrival and departure terminal, airport weather, and airport maps and tips, which are useful if you’re in an unfamiliar airport.
