Collaboration between Govt and colleges for providing jobs in IT sector: Khaunte

IT minister Mr. Rohan Khaunte expressed the need for a collaboration between the Government and Colleges for creating job opportunities to students and advised the teachers to take up concrete initiatives under IT start-up policy to reverse the brain drain from the state.

He was speaking as the Chief Guest during the Annual Social Gathering and Prize distribution function of the DnyanprassarakMandal’s College and Research Centre Assagao, Goa

Raising concern over the issue of Goan youth migrating outside the state in search of jobs, Khaunte said that “ for the future of Goans, I expect enough contribution from the academia as we are trying to create infrastructure to support the industry because innovation is the flavor”.

Considering the job oriented diversified courses offered by the DnyanprassarakMandal’s College, he said that the government is willing to provide grant up to Rs. 10 lakh to the College for creating infrastructure for the students, who can innovate in IT sector irrespective of their discipline to build a career.

Applauding the efforts of college for introducing MSc (Pharmaceutical Chemistry), a unique course in the country, for providing 100 percent job placement to the students, Khaunte said that it reflects the vision of the management and teachers.

The Guest of Honour,Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC) chairmanand former MLA,DayanandSopte said that students should always respect their teachers, who have immenselycontributed towards building up their career. He said that as an ex - student of this college he has witnessed how the college has transformed itself catering to the needs of students with diverse background. He expressed government support to the institution that is at the fore front of social transformation.

Taking an overview of the excellence achieved by the college in academic and extra - curricular activities at National and state level events, Principal of the college, Dr. D B Arolkar said that two students were awarded Gold Medals by the Goa University for getting 1 St rank in examinations. He said that the college was selected under ‘Unnat Bharat Abhiyan’ by Ministry of Human Resource and Development among 338 colleges in India. The Commerce College ranks among top 100 colleges in a survey conducted by the India Today ranking while BBA college ranks 33rd byanother national survey, he mentioned. Arolkar informed that two NCC cadets have been selected to represent Goa at Republic Day Parade at New Delhi.

Chairman of DnynaprassarakMandal, ShrikrishnaPokle said that government should recognise the good work done by the college for the last several years and permit it to start B.Ed course.

Vice principal of the college ReshmiRedkar, introduced the chief guest of the function.

Sarpanch of Assagao, JallinderGoankar, Prof.SurendraSirsat, MilindShirodkar, AbhayGawandalkar, SudeshNatekarChairman of Student Council Dr. Shaikh Parvez were present on the dais. The general secretary of the Students’ Council PrajatBhonsle proposed the vote of thanks.
