Inaugural function of the Student Council of SSA College of Arts and Commerce

 Sant Sohirobanath Ambiye Government College of Arts and Commerce, Virnoda, Pernem, Goa held the inaugural function of the Student Council 2018 on 21st August 2018 at 11.00 a.m. in the College hall. Alexandre Moniz Barbosa, Editor, Herald, was the chief guest.

The programme began with a melodious welcome song by the students. Principal of the college Dr Filipe Rodrigues e Melo, welcomed the gathering. In his welcome address he stressed that learning is a continuous process and gathering information is equally important. He advised the students to make fruitful use of the library and also reminded them of their responsibilities as members of the Council.

The guests were welcomed with a potted plant as a token of love. This was followed by the traditional lighting of the lamp and a formal oath ceremony administered bythe Principal of the college, whereby the council members promised to abide by the rules and regulation of the institution and to carry out all the duties entrusted to them with due care.

General Secretary of the council Harishchandra Sawal Desai announced the plan for the academic year 2018-2019. He committed himself to support and encourage students and to work for the uplift of the College.

Chief guest Alexandre Moniz Barbosa, Editor Herald Goa in his address, recalled his student days and told the gathering that students today are fortunate to have state-of-the-art infrastructure.He also called upon the students to respond to community need. “If we are not part of solution then we are the part of problem,” he said, quoting Shiv Khera. Taking a cue from the Kerala disaster, he appealed to the student community to preserve the environment. He suggested that appropriate workshops be organized for students and teachers alike.

Professor Oscar de Noronha , Head , Department of English Introduced the chief guest and Prof Virendra Amonkar, Convener, Students Council, proposed vote of thanks.

Comperes of the programme were Prof Zamila Pacheco and Neha Gawade, student of the college.
