Young Konkani writer, journalist and tiatr artist Marcos Gonsalves is one of the recipients of recently
announced Art and Culture Department’s Yuwa Srujan Award 2018-19. Marcos was
born in the picturesque village of Arlem-Raia in Salcete taluka.
Along with the reigns of journalism, the eminent young writer
made his debut in prize winning collection of one act plays titled ‘Zoglam’,
followed by ‘Sangharsh’, which bagged the best book awards conferred by Konkani
Bhasha Mandal and Goa Konkani Akademi. Having set the small stage on fire by
his unbeatable talent, Marcos Gonsalves went on to fill the mighty ocean of
Konkani literature with ‘Thembea-Thembeant’ and ‘Xruxtti’, a poetry collection
that ignited many a hearts!
He has also published stories and creative essays as ‘Konnsam,
‘Tornni Xim’, and ‘Doryadhar’! ‘Umalle’, yet another brainchild of Marcos in the
form of a magazine speaks volumes about him. He went to the roots of indigenous
tribes and thus a research work done by Marcos Gonsalves titled ‘Kristanvancho
Zagor’ shall go down the history!
The writer within Marcos Gonsalves stepped in the tiatr field,
thus staging award winning tiatr like ‘Ek Aslo Surya’, ‘Mhojea Mamachea
Ganvant’ and ‘Piki Piki Kazule’ which highlighted the serious issues about
children. All three tiatr won best performance awards in Tiatr Academy of Goa’s
tiatr competitions.
The
multifaceted writer has served Konkani literature in various forms and his work
has won laurels and attracted a few accolades! He is also recipient of Goa
Konkani Academy, Dalgado Konkani Academy, Thomas Stephen Konkani Kendr, V.Ixtt,
Gulab, Tiatr Academy(Goa) awards.
