Goans are gifted with various talents in various fields and they take great pride in sharing that talent. Taking this spirit of sharing to a whole new level is the Socorro Socio- Art and Culture Association, which, with various festivals under their belt, will be introducing a unique festival, titled ‘Denechem Fest 2017’ that is completely supported by the talents of the volunteers.
Key members of the association, Marius
Fernandes and parish priest Fr Santana Carvalho will be coordinating with the
volunteers at the event. The festival will be held at Tito’s restaurant, Baga
on Sunday, November 19, 2017 from 10am to 3pm. This will be the first festival
that will be held in the Baga-Calangute-Candolim belt.
The welcome song will be performed by St
Joseph Boys School, Calangute followed by a laughter session by Alexyz and a
song by the students of the school. A highlight of the festival will be
‘Balcaoache Gozalli’ by Clarice Vaz, who will also demonstrate her painting style
as India’s first and only syringe artist. Brother Apoli will talk about St
Joseph Boys School and renowned footballer Alex Miranda will also share his
skills.
Dances will be choreographed and performed
by Darryl D’Souza and troupe, Clizsma D’Costa with pound dance and Joshino
Fernandes and troupe. Post lunch, the musical jam up is open to musicians with
instruments.
The basic system of this festival remains
the same as those previously held; it is a community-based low-cost festival
that is eco-friendly and voluntary, without alcohol, sponsors, chief guests and
competitions. “We have organised so many festivals in Goa and we have realised
that people are very forthcoming in sharing their god given talent. Alexyz has
been part of the festivals from the beginning and over the years, we had
artists like Clarice Vaz, musicians like Carlos Gonsalves and singers like
O’luv joining us at various venues. Now, we have a renowned venue that will be
shutting down its bar for the five hours that the festival will run,” says
Marius.
“Many artists from the school have also
come forward to volunteer for this festival. Darryl of the dance troupe Dance
Ophilia, and Savio Godinho who will assist with face painting, have both
studied at the same school. I would also like to urge other artists from Goa to
come by the festival and showcase their works for the participants. If you are
an artist, feel free to carry your canvas or papers and if you are a musician,
bring along your musical instrument to entertain your fellow Goans. Those who
have purchased a ‘ghumott’ at any of the previous festivals, kindly carry it or
purchase one at this festival itself to join in the jam session,” says Marius.
Carlos Gonsalves will be giving a special percussion performance
with his Talking Drums project that will feature the ‘ghumott’, as he is the
brand ambassador of that instrument. O’luv will be performing Konkani pop
songs. Naaz, a picnic style group singing, will be recreated especially for the
festival.
‘Balcaochi Gozalli’ is a new feature that has been added to the
festival, where eminent Goans can share their experience. One of them will be
Alex Miranda, who has represented Goa seven times at the Santosh Trophy, the
highest number for any Goan footballer.
There will be several stalls at the festival including a stall
by Anthony Fernandes and his family with ‘ghumotts’ priced at Rs 250, Rs 350,
Rs 450 and Rs 500, according to size. There will also be a stall by Premanand
S, a differently-abled bamboo artist, who will be displaying over 20
hand-crafted musical instruments. The world’s largest ‘ghumott’ and ‘mandallem’
will also be on display. No event is complete without great food and the
‘Denechem Fest 2017’ will not disappoint with mouth watering Goan ‘jevonn’.
‘Denechem
Fest 2017’ will be held on November 19, 2017 at Tito’s Restaurant, Baga from
10am to 3pm
