The King’s
School coaches and teaching staff
team bagged the award of the King’s Premier League, a five over a side tennis
ball cricket tournament. The King’s School Margao hosted the seventh edition of
this cricket tournament with many former Ranji players including Aditya Angle
participating in the said tournament. The tournament had a registration fee and
seven teams, all done in aid of cancer patient’s welfare. The tournament also
saw a participation of Business Network International group BNI Mathgram,
Margao participating in the tournament.
The tournament was
successfully organised by cricket coach Murli Talekar along with The King’s
School’s chairman Melvin Pereira and Director Ligia Pereira.
The tennis ball
tournament was held earlier this months and had cash awards of Rs 15,000 and Rs
10,000 up for grabs besides trophies were distributed for man of match, girl of
the match, best fielder, best catch, best bowler and best batsman.
This tournament was
held for the invited team, parents, students, ex-students of The King’s School
while the tournament also had a special all women’s match between the women
staff of the school and the school girls team comprising of players having
represented Goa for BBCI organized tournaments in the U 14, U 16 and U 19
category in cricket across India. The proceeds from the tournament were donated
towards Cancer Patients Welfare. The entire proceeds will go towards cancer
patient’s welfare, an endeavor of The King’s School. The school till date has
generated over Rs 1.5 crores in the last seven years assisting over 250 cancer
patients across Goa.
The King’s School has
its own dedicated cricket nets and bowling machine while the school hosted
former New Zealand batsman Mattew Sinclair for a cricket masterclass last April
2018. The school will also host a similar event in football namely The King’s
Football League.
Former First class
cricketer Vivek
Kolamkar, the Chief
Guest at the event, stated that events like this are not just about cricket but
about sports that unites people across communities, religion and caste. Vivek
praised the school for organizing the KPL for the last seven years. Vivek has
played 10 years first cricket in 43 Ranji trophy matches for Goa and retired in
2006 from first class cricket. He also played for 14 years for Salgaocar
cricket club as captain, is a BCCI Level 2 coach, was the former Coach of Goa
Ranji trophy team, Goa u19, u25 coach besides coaching Dempo sports club for 5
years and having won 4 times titles of champion club of Goa for Dempo’s. He’s
currently the coach of Geno sports club. In 2017, Vivek was inducted into the
BCCI panel of Match Referee’s to officiate in BCCI’s domestic tournaments.
