QUEPEM: People are inconvenienced by the non-availability of stamp papers of Rs 50 and Rs 200 in Sub-Treasury Office, Quepem.
Shortage of stamp papers of Rs 50 and Rs 200 in Sub-Treasury Office on account of unavailability of the same at any of the recognised shops in Quepem town at present, has led to a great deal of inconvenience to the public, said Quepem local Angelist de Costa.
He further said that the people coming from rural areas of Quepem who need stamp paper to file affidavit for COVID Fund Scheme of the government face a lot of hardships. Besides, this unavailability of stamp papers has also hit all government offices and other offices handling legal matters.
“In the past, stamp paper of Rs 20 was in circulation, but it has been discontinued. After that, the people are worried about whether the stamp paper of Rs 50 will be continued or discontinued. At present, only stamp paper of Rs 500 is available," he said.
He added, “I had gone to the Sub-Treasury Office three days ago and when I asked the official about it, an official of the office said that the stamp paper would be available on December 1 and a special transport would be sent from Panjim to Nashik to bring the stamp paper. Till now our office gives Rs 100 stamp paper which can be used on plain papers.”
Local Councilor Amol Kanekar speaking on this issue said, “When citizens are inconvenienced on account of such an urgent requirement, it needs to be looked into by a responsible office in advance, as it causes inconvenience to the common people as well as inconvenience to the government offices.
Kanekar further said that the Sub-Treasury Office should keep an eye on such matters seriously.
“Now we need better planning because this should not happen again as it reflects on a particular department,” he added.
