Stray dog menace in localities in Goa

Herald Team

Stray dogs have become a growing problem in numerous localities across Goa, harming humans as well as the welfare of these animals.

Stray dog attacks are primarily responsible for rabies spread to humans.

They also carry a variety of other diseases such as hydatid disorders, anthrax, parvovirus and leptospirosis. As our localities increase, the natural homes for these dogs reduce.

Animals later search for food from trash or human kindness. Some pet owners are careless in not disciplining their dogs correctly and not taking them for examinations or sterilising their pets.

To tackle the issue: Educate people about sterilising and getting neutered, ensuring that pet owners comply with the regulations, collaborate with animal welfare groups such as WVS (Worldwide Veterinary Service) to give medical treatment shots, adoptions for strays and tell people about the massive scale sterilisation activities held.
