A 57-year-old woman from Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, died in Kathmandu after protesters set fire to her hotel during anti-government demonstrations.

The victim, identified as Rajesh Gola, had travelled to Nepal on September 7 with her husband, Ramvir Singh Gola. The couple was staying at the Hyatt Regency when violent “Gen Z” protests escalated on September 9 and demonstrators torched the hotel.

As fire blocked the exits, rescuers placed mattresses outside and urged guests to jump. Both Rajesh and Ramvir leapt from a fourth-floor window. While Mr. Gola sustained minor injuries, his wife suffered critical wounds and later died in hospital.

Their son Vishal told reporters that his mother was separated from his father during the escape. “She would have been alive if she had been with him,” he said.
