A 26-year-old woman was allegedly gang-raped inside a moving ambulance in Bihar’s Gaya district after she fainted during a Home Guard recruitment drive on July 24. The incident occurred at the Bihar Military Police grounds in Bodh Gaya, where the woman was undergoing a physical endurance test. According to her statement, she lost consciousness during the test and was being taken to a hospital when the assault took place. She claimed that three to four men sexually assaulted her while she was unconscious inside the ambulance.
Following her complaint, an FIR was registered at the Bodh Gaya police station. Authorities quickly formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT), and a forensic team was dispatched to support the probe. Within hours, police arrested two suspects: Vinay Kumar, the ambulance driver, and Ajit Kumar, a technician on board. Both are currently in custody, while investigations continue to determine the involvement of others present in the vehicle. CCTV footage reportedly supports the woman's account by confirming the ambulance’s route and timeline.
The case has triggered widespread outrage and raised serious concerns about public safety and law enforcement in Bihar. Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) MP Chirag Paswan sharply criticized the state government, pointing to a worsening law and order situation. Expressing regret over previously supporting the administration, he said crimes such as rape, murder, and robbery have become rampant and underscored the urgent need for stronger governance. Paswan added that even if such incidents are exploited to tarnish the government’s image, it must still take firm action to prevent them.
As the investigation unfolds, public pressure is mounting for swift justice and systemic reforms to prevent such horrifying incidents in the future, particularly during state-run events meant to ensure citizen safety and opportunity.
