Two Assam Rifles personnel were killed and five others injured after their truck was ambushed by unidentified terrorists on the outskirts of Imphal, Manipur, this evening. The injured jawans have been admitted to the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Imphal.
The attack occurred at around 5:50 pm when the paramilitary unit’s 407 Tata vehicle was traveling from its Patsoi company operating base to the Nambol base. The ambush took place on the same route recently traversed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to Manipur last week.
The ambush site is located approximately 8 km from Imphal Airport on the road toward Churachandpur. According to official sources, “In the general area, Nambol Sabal Leikai, the column was ambushed by unidentified terrorists on the highway in the denotified area of Manipur. In the ensuing action, two personnel of the Assam Rifles were martyred and five were injured.”
Security forces have launched a search operation in the area to track down the perpetrators. This incident highlights ongoing security challenges in Manipur and underscores the risks faced by paramilitary personnel in the region.
