The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) parliamentary board is set to meet on August 17 at the party headquarters in New Delhi to discuss the ruling National Democratic Alliance’s (NDA) nominee for the upcoming Vice-Presidential election, party sources said.

A senior BJP leader stated, “The meeting is scheduled for 17 August 2025 at the BJP office in Delhi. All parliamentary board members will be present, and discussions on the NDA’s Vice-Presidential candidate are expected.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, BJP president JP Nadda, and other senior leaders are likely to attend. On August 6, NDA leaders passed a resolution giving PM Modi and JP Nadda the authority to finalise the alliance’s candidate for the election, scheduled for September 9 if contested.

The Vice-President’s post fell vacant after Jagdeep Dhankhar, 74, resigned on July 21 citing health reasons. In his resignation letter to President Droupadi Murmu, Dhankhar said, “To prioritise health care and abide by medical advice, I hereby resign as the Vice-President of India, effective immediately, in accordance with Article 67(a) of the Constitution.”

The Election Commission has notified that voting will take place between 10 AM and 5 PM on September 9 at the First Floor of Parliament House.
