Delhi Police on Sunday arrested Tahseen Syed in connection with the recent attack on Chief Minister Rekha Gupta. Tahseen, a friend of the prime accused Sakriya Rajeshbhai Khimji, was brought from Rajkot, Gujarat, on Friday night for questioning and was made to confront Khimji to verify key details, authorities said.

Police allege that Khimji, 41, had shared a video of Gupta’s Shalimar Bagh residence with Tahseen, who reportedly sent him Rs 2,000 and remained in frequent contact with him before the alleged attack. The incident occurred on Wednesday during a “Jan Sunwai” programme at the chief minister’s Civil Lines camp office.

Khimji, an autorickshaw driver, has a criminal history spanning multiple years in Rajkot. Between 2017 and 2024, he faced five cases related to assault and liquor possession, along with preventive actions under the Gujarat Prohibition Act and the Code of Criminal Procedure. He was also externed under section 56 of the Bombay Police Act in 2021.

Notably, Khimji’s past offenses include a 2017 incident in which he struck a person on the head with a sword and beat him with a laundry bat. In 2022, after a domestic dispute, he reportedly inflicted injuries on his own head with a blade to intimidate his family, requiring nine stitches.

Authorities continue to investigate the case from all angles as both accused remain in custody.
