Heavy rain lashed Delhi on Thursday, leaving several parts of the city waterlogged and traffic in chaos. Amid the downpour, a shocking incident was captured on CCTV when an old neem tree collapsed on a man and his daughter riding a bike in Kalkaji, South Delhi.

The incident occurred around 9:50 am, when the tree suddenly uprooted, crashing onto the bikers and nearby vehicles.

Police responded swiftly to a PCR call and, with the help of a Centralised Accident and Trauma Services (CATS) ambulance, shifted the victims to AIIMS Trauma Centre. The two—identified as Sudhir Kumar (50) and his daughter Priya (22)—suffered serious injuries and remain under treatment.

An i10 car parked nearby also sustained damage. Visuals from the spot showed the tree blocking the entire road, forcing the Fire Department and a JCB machine to be deployed to cut and remove the debris.

Delhi woke up to heavy showers, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue a red alert for the capital, warning of more intense rain. Commuters faced severe inconvenience, with major stretches including Lajpat Nagar, Rohtak Road, Anand Parbat, Jahangirpuri GTK Depot, Adarsh Nagar, Old GT Road near Ring Road, Ashram-Moolchand stretch on Mathura Road, and Dhaula Kuan-Gurugram road reported inundated.

Delhi Airport also urged travellers to use the Metro to avoid delays caused by traffic and waterlogging.
