Herald Team

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has directed Mumbai Police to register a case against actor Ranbir Kapoor, the producers of The Ba**ds of Bollywood, and Netflix for allegedly promoting e-cigarettes in violation of the Prohibition of Electronic Cigarettes Act, 2019.

A complaint by Vinay Joshi highlighted a scene where Kapoor is seen smoking an e-cigarette without warnings or disclaimers, potentially influencing young viewers. The NHRC also issued a notice to the Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, urging action to restrict such content. Mumbai Police have been given two weeks to file an action report, while the investigation extends to e-cigarette manufacturers and importers.
