Indian gangster Randeep Malik, associated with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, has allegedly demanded a ransom of ₹3 crore from businessman Romi King, who claims to have survived a recent shooting incident in Portugal. Malik has also claimed responsibility for the attack, which targeted King and his adopted son, Prince, in Lisbon’s Odivelas suburb.
Speaking to the media, Romi King, who has been living in Portugal since 2013, said he had been receiving threatening calls from unknown international numbers for several weeks. “On August 25, I got a call… they demanded 3 crores from me and threatened they would kill me if I did not pay. I thought it was a prank and refused. On September 2, around 1:30 am, shots were fired at our office,” he recounted.
Fortunately, King was not present during the attack. A case has since been registered with local police. However, King claims that the threats escalated after the shooting. “The next day onwards, we started getting non-stop calls. They are also trying to defame the company on social media,” he said.
King denied any links with Lawrence Bishnoi’s network. “I have heard the name of the gang but I have neither met them nor do I know them. They are calling me a drug smuggler, which is false. No case is registered against me either in Portugal or in India. Prince is my adopted son and also my business partner. I request you not to defame me. I am scared,” he added.
Malik, believed to be hiding in the US, is among India’s most wanted criminals. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) and Delhi Police are already pursuing him in connection with multiple cases of murder, extortion, and violent attacks, including the Chandigarh club blasts and gang-related shootings in Canada.
