YSRCP President and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on Tuesday launched a sharp attack on Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, accusing him of neglecting the severe crisis faced by farmers in the state.
Taking to social media platform X, Reddy alleged that the Naidu-led government has “set unmatched records in pushing farmers into distress” by failing to stabilize crop prices. He highlighted the situation in Kurnool, where onions are reportedly being sold at just Rs 3 per kg and tomatoes at Rs 1.50 per kg, calling the prices “unimaginable” and questioning whether farmers are even being allowed to survive.
“What use is a government that does not stand by its people in their toughest times? A government that refuses to rescue farmers in crisis is as good as no government at all,” Reddy said in his post.
The YSRCP chief further accused the TDP government of making false promises, pointing out that while official advertisements claimed onion procurement at Rs 1,200 per quintal, auctions in Kurnool saw no buyers. “Was this not a deliberate attempt to create an impression that nothing can be done?” he asked.
Drawing comparisons, Reddy noted that onions are being sold online and in retail outlets at Rs 29–32 per kg, and at Rythu Bazaars for Rs 25 per kg, yet farmers are not receiving even a fraction of that value. He alleged that this reflects a complete failure of the Naidu administration to protect the farming community.
