Stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra has found himself at the center of controversy following an alleged joke targeting Maharashtra's Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. Shiv Sena (UBT) leaders, including Sanjay Raut and Naresh Mhaske, have condemned Kamra's comments, issuing strong warnings of potential repercussions.
Kamra's show, filmed at Hotel Unicontinental in Mumbai's Khar area, included a jibe aimed at Shinde, where he seemingly mocked the leader by altering a song from the popular Bollywood film Dil Toh Pagal Hai. Though Kamra did not explicitly name Shinde, the remark, which included the word "gaddar" (traitor), quickly drew the ire of Shiv Sena members.
Sanjay Raut, a prominent Shiv Sena (UBT) leader, shared the video of Kamra's performance on social media platform X, captioning it as "Kunal Ka Kamal" (The wonder of Kunal). The comedian's joke sparked outrage among Sena leaders, with some party workers even vandalizing the hotel where the event took place.
Naresh Mhaske, a Shiv Sena Lok Sabha MP, criticized Kamra, calling him a "contract comedian" and warning that the comedian had made a grave mistake by mocking Shinde. "Once the fangs are out, there will be dire consequences," Mhaske threatened, implying that Kamra had stirred up trouble by mocking a powerful figure in Maharashtra politics.
This incident highlights the growing tensions between political figures and the entertainment industry, as public figures continue to face backlash for their comments, especially in the politically charged atmosphere of Maharashtra.
